Learning aims(学习目标):

1. To get a general idea of the TV news special transcript.

2. To improve reading ability.

3. To learn to identify links between paragraphs.

Important and difficult points(重点难点):

1. Try to identify links between paragraphs.

2. How to help students learn to love and treat them equally.

Teaching Methods(教学方法):

1. Fast reading to get a general idea of the text.

2. Careful reading to get the detailed information.

3. Asking-and-answering to help the students understand the text exactly.

4. Group work to make every student work in class.

Teaching Procedures(教学过程):

Step 1 Greetings and lead in

Play a game: How much do you know about AIDS?

Step 2 Listening

True or False:

1. After a person is infected by HIV, he will know that he carries it.

2. Aids patients become sick more easily than common people.

3. Unprotected sex accounts for 75 percent of infections worldwide.

4. The UNAIDS with the UN helps treat Aids patients.

5. Now the Aids patients in China can get free drugs from the anywhere.

Step 3 Scanning

Read the article and find out the figures in the article and circle them, then find information about these figures in given time.

Step 4 Careful Reading

Read the passage again for more detailed information.

1. What is the function of Paragraph 1?

2. What is the relationship between AIDS and HIV? (para. 2)

3. What are the three ways Aids is spread? (para. 3)

4. What’s the function of Paragraph 5?

Step 5 Homework:

Discussion: “What can be done to improve the situation?”
